Hugh Freeze Hired as Auburn Tigers Football Head Coach
Former Ole Miss and Liberty Head Coach Returns to SEC
Auburn, AL (January 1, 2023) -
Hugh Freeze has been named the 31st head coach of the Auburn Tigers football team, the university announced on November 29, 2022. The former Ole Miss and Liberty head coach returns to the SEC after a successful stint with the Flames.
Freeze signed a six-year contract with Auburn that will pay him an average of $6.5 million per year. He replaces Bryan Harsin, who was fired after just two seasons at the helm.
"We are excited to welcome Hugh Freeze to the Auburn family," said Auburn athletics director John Cohen. "His successful track record and passion for the game of football will be a great asset to our program."
Freeze has a career record of 103-43 as a head coach, including a 75-29 mark at Liberty. He led the Flames to two consecutive bowl games and a Liberty Bowl victory in 2020.
"I am honored and humbled to be the head coach at Auburn University," said Freeze. "This is a dream come true for me. I am excited to work with our players, staff, and fans to build on the rich tradition of Auburn football."
